Statement regarding European Union European Directive 2011/65/EU
The RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) was issued by the European Union to restrict and/or limit European usage of certain harmful materials in electrical and electronic products. It is applicable to American products shipped to Europe. It is not yet applicable to products used within the United States, but many states are considering and planning similar restrictions.
Western Tube & Conduit has three basic product lines. The first two, Fencepost and Mechanical Tubing, are not at all electrical or electronic in nature or application, and therefore are not part of the products covered by the RoHS 2 Directive. It simply does not pertain to them.
The product line of Western Tube & Conduit that might be considered subject to the RoHS 2 Directive is electrical conduit. In actuality, the statements in the Directive actually exclude conduit, because those statements define their coverage to be limited to electrical equipment that transfers electrical current. Conduit doesn’t normally transfer current, it serves as a shield and protector for conductors that do transfer current. However, since in certain situations conduit might carry a current, WTC has chosen to accept the RoHS requirements and stay within compliance.
Western Tube and Conduit does not add any of the RoHS 2-identified materials to its conduit products. Steel and zinc do, however, contain trace quantities of some the listed materials, such as lead and cadmium, and some of our Rigid tubing has a chromium conversion coating which contains hexavalent chromium. Those materials are contained in or on the steel and zinc we procure for manufacturing our products, and the amounts that the steel and zinc contain stay the same from our receipt to our shipment. In all cases the amounts are far below the allowable maximum limits prescribed by RoHS 2.
Western Tube & Conduit’s electrical conduit products fully comply with the RoHS 2 Directive.
